The Business of Being Bold
Some businesses are built around products. Others are built around a purpose.
When John Muske founded Bold Ag in Ipswich in 2024, his goal was simple: create an agronomy business centered on trusted relationships, personalized service, and recommendations farmers can have confidence in. He recognized a need for growers who wanted more than a one-size-fits-all approach; pairing proven products with local expertise, precision agronomy, and service that doesn't end after the sale.
Today, Bold Ag provides Pioneer® seed, crop protection, crop nutrients, agronomic consulting, crop scouting, precision mapping, and soil sampling to help producers make informed decisions every season.
The company's name reflects the philosophy behind everything they do.
"Bold Ag" isn't just a brand. It's a mindset. John and his family believe life should be lived boldly, with conviction and faith. That same philosophy carries into every recommendation they make. They stand behind their products, trust the science and experience guiding their decisions, and approach each customer's operation with the confidence to do what's right – even while recognizing there are always things, like the weather, beyond anyone's control.
Around the shop, you'll find another phrase that captures that mindset: "Yield Out." While it may be a nod to helping growers maximize their operations, it also reflects a broader approach to life and business – showing up every day with purpose, giving your best, and investing in the people and communities around you.
That commitment extends well beyond the field. Since launching Bold Ag, John has been an active member and sponsor of the South Dakota Agri-Business Association. A graduate of our Tomorrow's Ag Leaders program, he also serves on the SDABA Board of Directors, helping advocate for the future of agriculture across our state. His investment doesn't stop there. Whether supporting local events like Trail Days or investing in organizations that strengthen agriculture, John believes success is measured by more than yield alone.
We're proud to have Bold Ag as a member and grateful for John's continued leadership, partnership, and investment in South Dakota agriculture.
